Estradiol-HRT

Significance
Measurement of Estradiol is somewhat problematic in women who are on Hormone Replacement Therapy, due to presence of interfering metabolites. The source of these metabolites may be the supplement itself, or they may be generated by metabolism of the supplement ingredients in the peripheral circulation. As a result, this renders the analysis of Estradiol by conventional immunoassays unsuitable. Therefore, it is necessary to remove these interferences, prior to performing the analysis by immunoassay.

Analysis
Chromatographic extraction and Enzyme immunoassay

Patient Preparation
Please note: steroid compounds, ACTH, Gonadotropin, or estradiol containing medications all influence Estradiol levels. Please provide patient gender, age, and information regarding medications that may influence estradiol levels. Indicate if patient is on hormone replacement. Samples drawn in the morning are preferred.

Specimen requirements
Collect blood specimen into plain or redtop evacuated tube. Centrifuge and separate serum from cells (plain tube). Volume requested: at least 1.5 mL serum. Minimum volume: 1 mL

Shipping Instructions
Ship specimen at ambient temperatures. For long distance shipping, ship with ice packs.
